OVERVIEW

This 3,000 square foot single-story cafe is at the heart of the new Memorial Park Running Complex in Houston, TX. The cafe is part of the park’s master plan by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects that includes new paths and trails, a running track, and landforms that connect the park across Memorial Drive. The building’s crisp, detailed gable roof echoes the vernacular form of existing structures throughout the park and the military training camp that originally occupied the site over a century ago. Rectilinear brick volumes break the gable's geometry and house back-of-house programs. The roof cantilevers 30’ over the outdoor patio, seamlessly connecting the interior and exterior over an operable glass wall and framing views of the park.
