Judd Foundation Winter Garden and the Block Restoration

The restoration of the Block and Winter Garden, an adobe-walled compound that served as Donald Judd’s primary residence in Marfa, included installing new drainage to keep the installed spaces from flooding, restoring the pool and gravel ground surface, and rebuilding the failing adobe walls and their foundations around the Winter Garden. Mud from the existing walls, which were in danger of falling into the adjacent arroyo, was reconstituted to form the new adobe bricks that perfectly match the rest of the walls. The new site drainage system protects the space from flooding while conserving runoff to be used in irrigation throughout the site.
