OVERVIEW
Located on the edge of the Houston Audubon Society’s Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary, the 2,000 S.F. Field Station provides research and meeting spaces for the Audubon Society staff. The single-story building is organized around a central meeting space with high ceilings, skylights, and views of the surrounding bird habitat. Enclosed spaces like the kitchen and offices wrap around one side of this space while an outdoor screened porch wraps the other side and provides ample space for birders to observe while staying protected from the elements. The Field Station is Dark Sky compliant and uses cost-effective bird-safe glazing strategies, ensuring that the High Island sanctuaries remain a welcoming destination for both the wildlife enthusiasts and the over 300 species of birds.
